Australia passport holders, Australian citizens required Vietnam visa to travel for either tourism or business purpose.
Before getting visa to Vietnam, make sure that your passport is still valid for at least 6 month beyond your travel date to Vietnam, and it have 2 blank visa page.
As an Australian passport holder, you have 3 options to get visa to Vietnam as following:
- Visa on arrival
Recommend for travelling by air to Vietnam, you will get visa stamp upon arrival at airport in Vietnam with Vietnam visa approval letter – pre-approved visa, which issued officially by Vietnam immigration authority before your flight to Vietnam.
- Visa at Vietnam embassy / consulate abroad.
Australian citizens can apply at Vietnam embassy / Consulate in Australia or in any nearest Vietnam embassy in their city. Processing time and visa cost vary by the embassy.

- E-Visa online
Vietnam immigration authority launch in 2017 the pilot system for e-visa eligible for citizens from 80 countries, included Australian citizens.
You will apply and pay online to get a single entry tourist visa for 30 days. It takes normally 3 working days to process after your sucesful application and payment. You need to check youself if visa is approved and print it out, bring it along with original passport during your travel in Vietnam. What type of visa for Australian passport?
Most of the case, Australian passport can apply for Tourist visa, validity up to 3 months, for Business visa, validity up to 6 month, 12 month. Both of them can be single entry or multiple entry.
Remember that transit visa is not required if you just do stop over in Vietnam airport and stay at airport, in transit area. But you need to get visa if your flight do stop over twice 2 airport in Vietnam, normally Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh airport or vice versa. You must do passport clearance for entering the country at the first airport as your next flight is domestic route, then do passport clearance again for exit at the second airport.
